Sum 41 @ The Ogden Theater
I realized recently that I started shooting shows, a long time ago. Over the course of the last 5 years, I’ve shot a lot of musicians and my experience and perspective on music photography has evolved. While I still get nervous before ever shoot just like the first time I photographed a concert, I find myself falling into patterns of laziness or anxiety about getting the perfect shot. These feelings suck and for their own reasons make me question why I do what I do.
Earlier this month, I was asked to photograph Sum 41 in Denver. Of course, I was stoked because my inner (and very much alive) emo self can ALWAYS get down to some Sum 41. And I don’t know what it was about that night, but I felt the magic of the first show I photographed at the Ogden. I didn’t feel pressure to get the perfect shot and I definitely didn’t feel any sort of apathy. Together this created magic.
